Wordle Solver is a free helper for Wordle and other five-letter word games. Enter the guesses you have made, tap the tiles to match the colors you got, and it shows every word that still fits and the guess that narrows the list the most. It works on a phone, needs no account and does everything in your browser.
What the site does
- The Wordle Solver filters a list of 8,802 five-letter words by the colors on your board, puts common words first and ranks the next guess. Hint mode hides the words and shows only counts and letter clues; Hard mode keeps every suggestion within your clues.
- The 5 Letter Word Finder searches by known positions, letters to include and letters to leave out.
- Best Wordle Starting Words ranks openers with the same engine and lets you score your own.
- The 5 Letter Words lists group words by first letter, ending and vowels, with letter statistics for each list.
What it does not do
It does not look up or publish the daily answer, and it is not a copy of the game. It only works from the guesses and colors you enter. Wordle Solver is an independent fan tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to The New York Times Company. Wordle is a trademark of its owner.
How the next guess is chosen
For every possible guess, the solver works out which colors it would get against each word that is still possible and counts how evenly those words split into groups. The guess that splits them best, measured as expected information in bits, is suggested first. Suggestions come from about 2,750 common words so you are never told to play an obscure word.
Word lists and credits
The word list combines ENABLE (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), which is in the public domain, with SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists) 2020.12.07 by Kevin Atkinson, up to size 70. Common words are SCOWL's size 50 and below, without simple plurals and past tenses. Slurs and sexual or vulgar words are left out of both lists. Neither list is the official Wordle word list.
