How to Search by Letters and Positions
- Known letters go in the five boxes, one per position: these are your green tiles.
- Include letters must appear somewhere in the word: your yellow tiles.
- Exclude letters must not appear at all: your gray tiles.
- Letters not in this spot (optional) remember where a yellow tile was, so words with the letter in that same place drop out.

Tips for Finding the Right Word
- Start with positions. A fixed first or last letter cuts the list hardest: only a few hundred words start with any one letter, and endings like -ATE or -IGHT leave a handful.
- Use exclusions generously. Every gray letter you add removes all words containing it, often a third of the list or more for common letters like E, A or R.
- Watch repeated letters. Typing E in Include does not rule out a second E. If your game showed one E yellow and one gray, the answer has exactly one; the solver handles that rule for you.
- Browse by pattern. The 5 letter words lists group words by first letter, ending and vowels, with letter statistics for each list.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find 5 letter words with certain letters?
Type the letters you know are in the word into “Include letters”. The list keeps only words containing all of them, in any position. Add letters you have ruled out to “Exclude letters” to narrow it further.
How do I search by letter position?
Put each letter you are sure of into its box at the top: a letter in box 1 means the word starts with it, box 5 means it ends with it. Empty boxes match any letter.
What is “letters not in this spot” for?
It mirrors a yellow tile in Wordle: the letter is in the word but not where you put it. Type it under that position and the finder keeps only words that have the letter somewhere else.
Is this a 5 letter word finder for Wordle?
Yes. Common words that are likely Wordle answers are listed first, and “Open in Wordle solver” carries your conditions to the solver, which also ranks the best next guess.
Which word list does it use?
A list of 8,802 five-letter words built from ENABLE and SCOWL, with about 2,750 everyday words marked as common. It is not the official Wordle answer list.
